I miss driving stick, I miss torque at my finger tips, I miss RWD. And most of all I hate this van. It torque steers like a mofo, it obviously has power but the 4 speed auto holds it back so much, the power is impossible to access. Its as wide as a school bus, and it has the turning radius of a freight train.
Oh and most of all, it gets 14mpg as opposed to my ranger’s 17mpg and it has an 18 gallon tank as opposed to my rangers 20gal, so its range is abysmal. Luckily Im working 42 hours this coming week, so thats a shit ton of overtime. Hopefully I can afford to do the bottom end rebuild on my 4.0 sooner rather than later

Why not just put in the 5.0?

Coyote swap time.

Wait why do you want to rebuild the 4.0 when you have a 5.0 to swap into it?

Almost like the one I had in highschool (2003 EX-L, so it had the 5spd), got it as a handme down. Loved that thing, and beat it to death. I disagree, if you put it to the floor it had lots of power, and torque. I made it do power slides on logging roads, jumping over train tracks (why the shocks where no good). I did lots of stupid shit in it. It also had an exhaust leak, I did not fix cause I like how it made it sound. In lots of ways it was better then a truck, you could fit 4x8 sheet in it, it was like a 8ft bed.
Out of all the things I’ve owned, I miss it the most (apart from the fuel economy). I slept in the back of it, took it off roading once, and many other things. It also did really good burn outs. Too bad the rust, and bad transmission killed it. The trick to make it turn well is to press on the parking brake and hold on tight. The seats where incredibility comfortable too, more cars need captain chair’s. It also did really good reverse doughnuts.

because It needs a full rebuild, I have to convert the trans to rwd, no idea how I would mount the airbox, heater core or AC, motor mounts im still not sure of, no idea if I’ll have to hack up the firewall/trans tunnel, and I still, need to make a custom ecu and wiring harness. plus the 5.0 rebuild will cost about $4k and will take 1-2 years of work while the 4.0 will take $800-$1k and 1-2 mos of work

You could just sell it for parts and get something cheap and reliable.

But wheres the fun in that

Getting to live life with one less thing to worry about, being able to go places and do things, financial stability, etc.
Not necessarily fun things, but they all make fun easier.

Mostly the not piss in money away. $4K buys you a nice motorcycle.

Okay time to hand in your jalop card

I’m pretty sure a good majority of Oppo agrees with me on this one.

Too much fabrication to get it running quick enough. My 4.0 dying is but an obstacle to the ultimate goal of a 5.0 Ranger
I just need to get it running again

you can get a used engine while you rebuild the 5.0. They put the 4.0 in a lot of things

The thing is I plan to sell the 4.0 and trans once the 5.0 is in. So I would rather one in known good shape than a questionable one

a low mile used one would be fine.

Which would be more than $1k

I agree with Slant6. Being financially responsible means that you can afford stuff you want later and being in a good place when things go wrong, rather than being up shit creek and having no fallback. If that makes someone not Jalop, I’ll hand in my card, too.

Should have gotten a Previa...
I mean it would still be slow, and still an automatic (but with column shifter), but you’d at least have RWD (or AWD).

If I were to buy a minivan Id agree, but this one is my moms and she drove it off the dealer lot back in 2000.

actually it’s as long as a school bus is wide
